SHINGLE STYLE
Dane County, Wisconsin
The lakeside setting, the neighboring colonial homes, and the owner's keen interest in American construction suggested a shingle style design, an idiom which still seems relevant to how we build and live today.
The house has two fronts, with an archway indicating entry on the landside, and an informal porch entrance on the lakeside. Interior planning centers around a two-story entry hall which extends through the house. The hall facilitates natural ventilation, with prevailing summer breezes entering low on the lakeside, exiting high on the opposite wall. A two story conservatory captures views and sunshine on the south.
