Wizard Academy Library
Epic Systems in Verona, WI is known for its uniquely themed facilities. KEE Architecture was hired to provide interior architecture and design services for Campus 4, more affectionately known as the Wizard Academy Campus.
Completed in 2016, the magically themed building resembled a Wizard’s Library, equipped with books and furnishings related to potions, spells and mythical creatures. A large focus of the project was the central feature stair. The lowest level of the stair boasts a 3-dimensional phoenix whose wings transition into the guardrail, constructed of layers of curved steel bars representing the flames of the creature’s rebirth.
Designed to encompass the experience of ascending through the library stacks, the 3 upper levels of the stair are enclosed with floor-to-floor book shelves on two sizes. The U-shaped stair opens into archways at each floor level and is covered with twin tongue-and-groove wood barrel vaults, mimicking the architecture of historical libraries in Europe.
Additional design features include laser cut metal panels and stair treads, over-sized chess pieces and custom wall coverings.
